Village Board of Trustees
Dear Area Residents,
It has come to my attention that some people are upset because the Hometown Hero banners are not up for Memorial Day. Being a Veteran myself, I completely understand the concern.
This in only the THIRD YEAR that the Hometown Hero banners have been in existence. The first two years-2020 and 2021 the Covid years, the Strawberry Festival was canceled, so the Hometown Hero banners were up for Memorial Day. The Strawberry Festival is June 10th and June 11th this year. The Strawberry Festival Committee solicits donations for the banners to offset the cost of the festival and give local businesses a chance to advertise. Those banners will be removed the week of June 13th and the Hometown Hero banners will be placed.
I want to stress that no disrespect was intended towards the Veterans or the families who have purchased the Hometown Hero banners. This is simply a matter of timing and logistics. It has been suggested to put “some” of the banners up. Which ones? No Veteran is more important than another. Our Veterans are in our hearts at all times.
Again, no disrespect was meant for the Veterans and their families. I have nothing but the utmost respect for those who have served our Country.
Respectfully,
Mayor Angel Javier Jr
Veteran of the United States Marine Corps
